A Quick Guide to Evaluating E-learning Options

Choosing an online learning platform shouldn’t feel like a gamble.

With hundreds of flashy options out there, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, especially when you want more than just screen time. You want something that’s research-based, research-backed, meaningful, and built to help your child or students truly thrive.

Not all programs are created equal. That’s why we’ve created a quick checklist to help you evaluate whether a platform is built on best practices in e-learning and design.

High-Quality Learning Platform Checklist:

  • Evidence-Based Practices

When selecting virtual programs or learning opportunities, look for one that shows the application of instructional design models including: a clear audience, defined objectives, and a variety of instructional strategies including time for experimental learning and independent learning. This shows that the course is not only well structured, but rooted in how people actually learn.

  • Built-In Feedback and Growth Opportunities

A solid educational platform will include assessments that provide feedback and allow for students to practice what they have learned in a low-stakes environment. Students will also have multiple opportunities to share and show what they have learned throughout the course.

  • Designed for Different Learning Styles

As you work through the course with your child, is the information presented in multiple ways? Great online learning doesn’t rely on just one format. Are there videos, images, charts, and more?

In a well planned and strong learning experience, the information will be presented in different ways to support a range of learning preferences, strengths, and abilities. There will be opportunities for hands-on activities, movement, audio files, mixed-media videos, text-based content, and practice with writing and answering questions. This multi-modal learning model supports different learning styles and keeps kids engaged and curious while enhancing learning.

  • Developmentally Appropriate, Audience-Specific Language

When you read through the text, do you notice your child struggling to gain meaning? The language in a course should match the developmental level of the learner. Content should simplify complex ideas without watering them down, offering clear explanations and age-appropriate challenges. If your child struggles to understand the text or vocabulary, the course may not be the best fit.

At Know Yourself Academy, we design every course with purpose.

Our content is built to reflect how kids actually learn, so they don’t just watch and listen, theydo. We combine research-backed strategies with creative, hands-on learning to help students grow in both confidence and understanding.

We can’t wait for you to see what learning looks like, the KYA way.
